2012 Centennial Celebration

bannercheer parade

There were a wide variety of activities held to celebrate the school's 100th birthday.  In fall 2011, we created shirts featuring the 100th year logo, which were given out to all OLMC students, faculty & staff.  They were also made available to our school families and parishioners.  Our slogan for the Centennial Year was -

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School:
100 Years of Faith, Learning & Family

City street banners were created with the same logo to hang along Monroe Street in front of the school and church. They were made available for business owners in the community as well.

On August 28th, we had our Centennial Celebration Mass to kick off our school year. In the opening procession, each grade level focused on a different aspect of the school.  Along with alumni, students carried up items representing the school along with the banners.  The school also entered a float in both the Herrin Homecoming Parade and the Herrinfesta Italiana Parade.  The float was decorated to represent an old-fashioned classroom that featured OLMC Alumni from various decades.

A Centennial Memory Book has been compiled to commemorate the historical mark through a pictorial of all OLMC graduating classes beginning in 1917, as well as a brief history of the school. There are a limited number of books available for purchase.  For more information or to purchase a memory book, please contact Martha Johnson at 942-4484.
